RESTORATION [TAPES, ARCHIVES, LOST RECORDINGS]

Tape transfer, cleanup, restoration, and final polish for recordings that deserve another life.

Old recordings often carry more than sound. They hold performances, memories, scenes, histories, and ideas that may have never been properly heard. I help transfer, clean up, restore, and prepare audio so the important parts can come forward without stripping away the character of the original source.

For recordings that deserve another life

Some recordings are fragile, noisy, distorted, uneven, or buried under years of hiss and degradation. The goal is not to make them sound brand new — it’s to help them become listenable, meaningful, and ready to share again.

Common ways I can help

  • Cassette transfer

  • Tape-sourced audio cleanup

  • Hiss, hum, buzz, and noise reduction

  • Click, dropout, and artifact repair as needed

  • Level correction and tonal balance

  • Archival mastering / final polish

  • Preparing restored audio for streaming, release, or sharingve

My approach

Restoration is a balance of cleanup and preservation. I use careful noise reduction, repair, EQ, level work, and mastering to improve clarity while protecting the feel, texture, and intent of the original recording.

Examples
The goal was to reduce noise, improve balance, and bring the music forward without erasing the character of the original recording.

Archival Music, Given New Life

I’ve been working with The Sagegazers label on restoration and mastering for archival music releases, beginning with recordings by Will Vukin. The goal is not to modernize these recordings or rewrite their history — it is to honor the original vision, improve listenability, and help the music reach new ears decades later.

As more releases become available, this section will collect restored and remastered work from the Sagegazers catalog. Sensitive audio is never just technical — every edit affects tone, trust, and how the listener receives the material.
